Learn Before You Earn:
To begin, you now most likely have a brand
new web site. Now what do you do with it? Well, first of all, hopefully your
designer tagged your web site properly so the search engines will find your site.
Tagging a site properly takes skill and experience and is something you will need to
research on your own. Search on Google and learn about the process. Here are
some quick links for you to get you started. I really suggest you take a look at
these if you ever want your site to be found, especially the dmoz.org link because they
feed all the major search engines. Once you do some homework, you will find search
engine submission to be easy, but very time consuming.

META Tags, Example Code:
Here
is an example of some meta tag code that was used on this page. Code should be
specific for each individual page of your web site. Meta tag code needs to go
between the <head> and </head> tags of your html code:

Pay Per Click Advertising:
Back
in the "good 'ol days" search engine submission used to be free. Nowadays,
everyone wants to charge you on a per click basis. Paying for a site like Overture.com is a great idea if you know what you are
doing. It can be very time consuming, but it is not all that difficult. In
short, you fund your account through Overture.com with let's say $100 to start. You
pick out search terms that people would use on the search engines to find you. YOU
NEED TO BE SPECIFIC!!!! You need to be very specific, isolated, and detailed in your
search request unless you are a multi millionaire. What this does in essence is
drive very specific traffic to your website - people that are looking to purchase EXACTLY
what you are offering. If you own a dental practice, do not pay for clicks under
"Dentist", rather "Tampa Bay area dentists" would work much
better. If you practice dentistry in Tampa, why would you want someone in Virginia
costing you $1.25 to click your link? Will you ever be able to gain that person as a
customer? No. The nice part is that if you are very specific in the search
terms you use, you can get your cost per click to around .05 per click and gain control of
the NUMBER 1 POSITION for all the major search engines under those search
terms. DO NOT UNDER ESTIMATE THE POWER OF PLACING IN THE TOP 10 OF THE
SEARCH ENGINES! It is huge to the success of your business. Your
money will go a much longer way for more pertinent search requests.
We will Consult You:
Submitting
sites to these type services takes experience as well and we have no problem working with
you as a consultant for a reasonable hourly fee to give you a hand, educate you and help
you write your copy and refine your search requests - just email us.
In addition to maximizing your search engine efforts, I suggest you take a look at Corey Rudl's packages. Corey is
one of these 20-somethings that made millions marketing his products online. The
main package costs about $200 but is worth every penny. You need to learn as much as
you can before you get started. The Internet CAN AND WILL put you together
with potential customers from all around the world, but you need to know what you
are doing. Do some homework, get
Corey's Internet Marketing course and be diligent.
Nobody knows EVERYTHING:
I
don't know how you feel about your business but if you are typical, you probably spend
every waking hour of your life thinking about how to make it succeed. Also, you
probably have every dollar invested in it and feel very proud when it does well. You
do not have to go it alone. We pay others for their expertise all the
time. Not everyone can be good at everything, but the smart business owner
knows this and seeks help when he or she needs something. That is where we
can help. We are artists, Internet marketing specialists, web designers and
have tons of business experience and that is what separates us from all the High School
kids out there that know how to build great web pages - its not about the site, but rather
what you do with it that makes all the difference in the world. Email us any inquiry you may have and
most likely if it can be done on a computer or drawn on paper, we can handle it.
How We Got Smoked - the First Time:
We
unfortunately learned about pay per click advertising the hard way. We funded the
account with around $1000 and used "Web Design" as our main search term.
Needless to say, our $1000 was gone within 3 minutes at $2.25 per click at that
time. Well, we learned from our mistakes. Now a typical pay per click search
term we use would be "Tampa small business web design" as opposed to the broad
request, "Web Design." You see the HUGE difference? The first time
we tried a pay per click campaign, with a total budget of about $1300, our hits went from
about 8000 per month to 25,000 in ONE WEEK. We managed to gain about $800 in
business from the first attempt, so the damage was not too bad for trying to figure out
how the system works. Now that we know what we are doing, we can really stretch our
advertising budget and vastly increase our Return On Investment. Email us if
you need help. If you have a quick question or two, we don't mind offering some
free advice, but if you are serious about starting a campaign, we will work with you on an
hourly basis.
Search Engines:
In order to submit your site to the search
engines, you will need to click the link below to get to that search engine's submission
page. Please note that search engines change their "add URL" page all the
time, merge companies and go out of business and we do not have the time to keep up with
them so some links might be broken or outdated, but give it a try - its worth it.
All search engines are different in the way they index your website. Once at the
appropriate page, typically you will need to fill in at least your E-mail address.
Sometimes they want you to include your name, what category you wish to be placed in,
etc. You need to follow the directions on the page to submit your site by
hand. Once you do it successfully the first time, it will be very easy the next
time. We recommend you submit your site once every month to assure proper
indexing. For most search engines, you should submit every page of your website.
When they ask you for the URL of your website, include the page too! For
instance if we were submitting this site and this page to HotBot below, these are the
procedures we would follow:
Steps to Submit Your Site:
Before you do anything, you should bookmark
this page so you can come back to it easily for reference.
Step 1: Read through these
instructions, then click one of the Search Engine links in the table below.

Step 2: On most search
engines you will see a page similar to the one above.
Step 3: Add your URL.
Please note that your URL is the complete page name, and not just the name of your
website. For example, to submit this site, we would start by typing in:
http://www.hateshopping.com/default.htm
and info@hateshopping.com
Step 4: Click the
"Submit" button on the bottom of the search engine page - It will usually send
you to a page that says something like: "Thank You, your website has been placed in
line to be indexed!"
Step 5: Click your
browser's "Back" button. This will take you back to the page where you
submitted your first URL.
Step 6: Because you hit
your browser's "Back" button, your URL and Email address should still be
in the submission box. Using your mouse, highlight and erase the URL, in this case, http://www.hateshopping.com/default.htm
and add your next web page, for example, we will now submit this page of our
website. Type in:
http://www.hateshopping.com/searchengine.htm
Step 7: Hit submit, then
your browser's "back" button. Repeat these steps until every page of your
site has been submitted to that search engine.
Step 8: Move on to the next
search engine and repeat steps.
Search Engine List:
*NOTE: You need to be very careful about
which search engines you use when paying for clicks or positions. There have been
MANY mergers and alliances of all sorts in this arena and it is difficult to tell what you
really get for your money. We suggest some core ideas that we trust:
Get listed in dmoz.org free.
If you are going to pay, use Google's AdWords
Service
Pay for search terms at Overture.com
Get listed on as many free sites as possible.
If you currently own, webmaster or know of a
good search engine that has not been included on the list below, email
us the URL of the list and we will add it.
| #1 SEARCH SUBMISSION: dmoz.org open directory
for Lycos, HotBot Google, AOL, Netscape, etc. If your site is tagged correctly, no matter
how many companies want you to pay for its services, dmoz.org can get you into the search
engines. They edit your submission with real people viewing your listings before
they get submitted. You MUST find the most appropriate category for your web page
before you can submit it. |
dmoz.org This site powers, Yahoo,
Google, Netscape, AOL and others. This is the BIG ONE. You need to be in this
directory to be found on the net. |
| Google - Free listing, but can be repetitive
if you listed your site through dmoz.org successfully because Google feeds off of dmoz. |
Google Free Listing
Section |
| Google Pay per click
service - works very well. It is very similar to other pay per click services such
as overture.com, but they allow you to spend a specific monthly dollar amount if you wish. |
Google Pay Per Click Site: AdWords |
| Excite - Now a pay to
play site. You pay for your submission and it gets included on Verizon, Dogpile,
Webcrawler, NBC and MetaCrawler |

| HotBot.com is now part
of, or has teamed up with the Lycos network. It is now also a pay to submit site and
if you pay, you can also be included in the FAST, HotBot, Lycos and Inktomi search
engines. This is a very large chain of big search engines, so it might be worth
paying for. |

another pay per click or pay to submit group of search engines. |
Direct Hit, Teoma, Ask Jeeves |
| Ah-Ha - Smaller search
engine. You need to fill in a few pieces of information before they will let you
submit, but any extra hits are worth the time it takes to submit your site. |
Ah-Ha |
| Northern Light - Another
smaller search engine. This one is still free as well and easy to add your site. |
Northern Light |
| Netscape - follow links
to Open Directory |

it will eventually show up in a Yahoo search. |
Yahoo Pay for fast inclusion service |
| AllTheWeb.com / FAST -
Another small search engine, but its still free and pretty easy to submit. |
All the Web |
| InfoSpace.com - Still
free but you need to give them some information about yourself or your business. A
little time consuming, but anything free is worth it. |
Submit to Infospace |
| Galaxy - This too is a
smaller search engine that is now a pay to submit site. It is relatively inexpensive
(as low as 9.99 currently) to submit your site, but its a fairly small search engine |

adding your web page to their search engine, you should check out their site as well.
